Will be traveling to Hokkaido in May just after the end of Golden Week. If we're lucky we may catch some late season cherry blossoms, fingers crossed. This will be our first time in northern Japan and we know virtually nothing restaurant wise for Sapporo and Hakodate where will be be spending 3 days in each location.
A bit of preliminary research has produced a few places though I have absolutely no idea whether these are really good or not. We'd be looking for a good Genghis Khan bbq, ramen, sushi and izakaya (with an emphasis on fresh seafood) in Sapporo. In Hakodate we're planning one dinner at Vascu, a well known Spanish restaurant. For our other meals, again ramen, sushi and a good local izakaya.
Here is a list of places we've come across so far:
Ramen, Saimi, Sumire and Gojogen
Genghis Khan bbq, Asahi Beer Garden, Matsuo and Fukuroutei
Sushi, Ichiko, Susukino Sushiken, Sushizen Honten, Hanamaru (kaiten) and Sushiya Yamada
Izakaya, Warashibe, Uoyaiccyou, Isaribi and Irohanihohoto
Ramen, Yamaokaya, Seiryuken and Ajisai
Sushi, Sushi Dokoro Kihara, Sushikura, Tsukasa and Tsuna
Izakaya, Akachochin (love this name!), Umigaku and Mutchan
I would love to hear from anyone familiar with these areas in regards to the places listed and am of course open to any suggestions as well. Thanks for your time and help.
This was mistakenly posted under Japanese cuisine, apologies for that.
