I went back to "Andalu" (SF) last night after first trying it about 1-1/2 months ago. What prompted me to go back was the write-up in The New York Times, and a friend wanted to try it.
To begin, we had the Ahi tartare tacos, mentioned in the NYT article. THere were 3 small ones, and while to my mind they used very high-grade ahi, it did seem like a very expensive dish ($11.00) ESPECIALLY COMPARED to the lamb osso bucco on a bed of mashed chick peas.
The osso bucco which I had on the first visit was not as well done the second time. Volume was about the same, but it wasn't as soft; the ligaments & tendons were quite tough vs. the first time when the whole thing just crumbled when you poked it. This was $9.00. I still have to get used to the idea of sending things back.
The 3rd dish was pretty good: the baked mussels on mashed potatoes. 7 mussels on the half-shell for $7.00; not bad.
We had the merlot from Argentina, also pretty good for $5.00/glass.
Maybe I will try other places next time. What have been your experiences here?
