just returned last week and wanted to report on some memorable --- and not so memorable --- meals. on the amalfi coast, had a really good dinner at chez black in positano, we went with a group of ten and had a blast, the food just kept coming and the fish was fabulous. by all means skip la caravella, it was moribund and the food was not anywhere close to the hype, this is a restaurant on its last legs, i think. extraordinary meal at rosellini's in the palazzo sasso in ravello, truly memorable and worth every penny. we stayed there and it was an all too brief experience. also had an extraordinary meal at a restaurant about a ten minute ride from central rome called l'ortica, it is off a highway in sort of a strip mall, but it is the best meal i have ever had in rome, i swear. we were the only americans there, which was also nice.
