Report on 6 days of eating and such, Oct 3-9 LONG REPORT

2 people, 6 days of eating, sightseeing, and oh yes, working,(one day),in DC. Oct3-9 What a great time we had!

Thanks to everyone for their posts and suggestions.

Pizzeria Paradiso Dupont circle – Monday Dinner
Arrived on Monday evening so had dinner in the area
OK Pizza, fresh good salad and really nice staff

Breadline – Tuesday Lunch
Grilled veggie/cheese sandwich on focaccia or grilled pita and Grilled proscuitto and cheese on focaccia or grilled pita,French fries
We snagged an outside table thank goodness. Large enough sandwiches to share, wish we would have.

Etete – Tuesday Dinner
The only disappointment we had.
We were going to choose between Etete and Queen Makeda, the later was closed for remodeling. The food was OK but not great. The atmosphere was not good, only Caucasians in the restaurant. A large party of “Gen X’ers” were in the rear (bar area) smoking. Loud music, not ethnic. Unpleasant.
We had received a recommendation for Dukem; when we walked back to Dupont Circle after dinner and passed Dukem it was filled inside and out with a diverse clientele. We wished we had picked it.

Dean and DeLuca – Wednesday Lunch
Sat outside, Sushi and House salad with a roll from inside.Iced Tea (no refills) – OK, saving up room for dinner

Pesce – Wednesday Dinner
Intimate feeling with the owner in attendance.
Sardines – very large and strong tasting, a little too “fishy” for all of us.
Calamari polenta crusted and fried -good
Mussels – very tender with good broth - delicious
Shared an Entrée - Lobster Risotto, wonderful mushrooms, big chunks of lobster, corn, cherry tomatoes (contract to richness) toothsome, our favorite of the night

Zaytinya – Thursday Lunch
Fava bean puree with lemon, capers, shallots and olive oil
Apricot, carrot, pistachio fritters with pistachio sauce
Fattoush salad – good and fresh
Imam Bayaldi – Not out of the ordinary
Apricot Yogurt Cream with Apricot 2 ways with Muscat Gelee – outstanding. The best thing we ate all week!

Twigs – Thursday Dinner
Hilton Capitol Hotel – OK

Corduroy – Friday Dinner
Lobster Salad with Basil
Duck Confit w/Tarbais Beans -excellent
Crispy Soft Shell Crab with wilted greens and Ver jus
Mélange of Seasonal Vegetables – great selections;
Asian rise cake with Taro root and seaweed,Potato cake,
Sautéed mushrooms, Yellow wax beans, Baby carrots
Mini goat cheese ravioli
A nice place where people could eat well and have a nice conversation.

Jaleo – Saturday Dinner
Very busy. Bar for the young and upward moving crowd, we had a half hour wait, not bad.
Grilled Eggplant, peppers, onions, with olive oil and sherry vinegar –good, nothing special
Pimentos stuffed with goat cheese and mushrooms –wish we had more
Tripe, garbanzo beans, sausage and meat –first time that I actually liked Tripe.
Sweetbreads with vegetables
Tortilla – omelet, sausage and manchego cheese
Very enjoyable

Didn't make it to Oohs and Aahs, as it was raining very hard and we didn't want to get stuck not having an indoor place to eat.
