Someone asked about the upcoming chowsocial on the general Topics Board last night...Since your gracious hostess, Abblovi, is conventioneering in the lovely city of Salt lake as we speak, I felt it behooved me to post a reminder of what's up! Here is a reprise of her last message...
All chowhounds are invited: newbie and veterans alike, to the next chowsocial potluck. It will be on Saturday, July 26th at the No Idea Bar which is located at 30 East 20th Street. The starting time is not yet determined but I'll post that very soon.
Already, almost 70 people have RSVPed.
We're using eVite to track responses, so please RSVP to me (firstname.lastname@example.org)and I'll send you a link. When you respond, please say where your goodies are coming from. If you need help deciding on something to bring, I am happy to make suggestions ;)
Here's a rundown of the food selection so far:
Either something from Sripraphai (where else? miang kum and miang lao again?) or homemade Lebanese kibbe
Maybe dal pouri. Maybe something I will learn about between now and then
I plan on bringing my favorite chow of the moment - tamales from Rico's Tamales Oaxacenos in Sunset Park (chicken mole and cheese).
I think I'll try to pick something up in Chinatown--suggestions welcome.
I'm thinkin Heirloom tomato salad I make from some awesome tomatoes grown upstate (hopefully ripe by then ;-) and whatever else hits me before then.
Right now I'm thinking about bringing a pan bagnat.
Bringing zuch.&meat casserole, Savannah Praline Cookies.
Chocolate babka? Homemade mango salsa? We'll see what the mood is that day... can't wait!
And I'll bring... mmm... something Czech. Probably homemade. I'm also thinking of having Al di La make a batch of their brilliant honey ice cream - but I'll have to figure out a way to transport it w/o a meltdown. That stuff is THE best.
I'm going to bring briermere pies and hopefully homemade saltenas...
Maybe Rugelah from Margret Palca Bakes...?
I will be bringing a selection of dips from Calista Foods in Astoria, and possibly some Eastern European charcuterie.
Possibly something from Bittersweet Pastries.
Brownies from Glaser's
Tuna Guys Tuna, or Octopus, from You-know-who, if scheduling permits,,,,
something travel-worthy from Boston, or something exciting from NY.
Chicken banh mi from Ba Xuyen
