The thread about the first recipe you ever made sent me down memory lane. Someone gave my mother "The New Joy of Jell-o" cookbook when I was little and it was that silly book that got me started in the kitchen.
When I think back now on all the "desserts" I used to make, I can't help but chuckle. My family was very tolerant of me taking over the refrigerator with all my "recipes".
My favorite thing to do were the layered desserts in wine glasses. Layers of normal jell-o alternated with layers of either whipped jell-o (just regular jell-o whipped with a mixer to make it airy) or jell-o folded with Cool Whip (of course the cookbook specified Cool Whip!). I would get *really* fancy by tipping the wine glasses in the fridge so that the first layer of jell-o would set on an angle. Boy, did I feel accomplished! Of course, I was probably 7 or 8 at the time, so everyone humored me.
I did find this image online of the version I had growing up. Did any of you ever "cook" from this cookbook? I don't think it's exactly destined to become a classic. :0)
