Red Velvet Cake/Angelena's Soul Food Kitchen

Kai | Nov 7, 2003 12:32 PM

There was a post by a hound about the Red Velvet Cake at Angelena's Soul Food Kitchen on Lankershim in North Hollywood. It was great! I'd never had Red Velvet before so I have nothing to compare it too. But this was an excellent cake. Crimson Red and dense with a cream cheese based frosting.

Also had the smothered chicken, mac and cheese, greens, rice, and cornbread. The chicken is melt-off-the-bone, stewed-in-gravy delicious. The mac and cheese was thick and very good as well. The greens weren't as good as I've had them at Angelena's which is unusual since they have always been consistenly above par in the past. The rice is average as is the cornbread which is a shame. Not terrible but solidly mediocre. Don't ever order the hush puppies though...they need to be taken off the menu. Whenever I want hush puppies with my grub from Angelena's I drive down Lankershim to H. Salt Fish & Chips and get them there. Dee-licious!
