Red Pepper Szechuan - report

Science Chick | Apr 25, 2008 06:48 AM

My DC and I headed out to Red Pepper last night for dinner. I was a bit hesitant because of some reports on the boards that food never shows up.....but I was hopeful that they had worked out their "kinks". I am happy to report that it was fabulous. The place was pretty empty ~6:45 (one other table). I wanted a mixed drink (vodka and tonic) and this seemed to cause some confusion and extensive discussion between our waitress and the hostess. 10 minutes later my drink showed up and tasted odd....flat tonic maybe. Next time I'll just stick with a beer. Anyway, I didn't care because I was so focused on the food. We had scallion pancakes which were piping hot and loaded with scallions....tasty! My DC had the twice cooked pork, which looked/smelled great and she loved it. I had the Eggplant in Xushiang sauce and it was brilliant. Tender pieces of chinese eggplant...nice hot/sweet sauce with round savoriness. We also shared some cold noodles in sweet/spicy sauce. Garnished with a cucumber "lotus blossom" they were tasty and fiery hot. The food came out very fast and our waitress was very, if not overly, attentive, making sure we had plenty of water, tea, etc. Bottom line.....I'll definitely be back. Next time I want to try some of the fish dishes.....any recs for the future??
