Oddly, I am in fact in search for a recipe for "pumpkin with white fungus" which my parents recently had in Shanghai (or in one of the cities nearby that they were in) for Thanksgiving.
About 10 years ago, my family decided that if we were going to have a day off to all cook together, we didn't want to spend it cooking familiar food every year. So, every year, we chose a different cuisine for our Thanksgiving meal, but give ourselves the challenge to use as many ingredients from traditional American Thanksgiving meals as possible (so, for example, last year when we made Hungarian food, two of the things we made were turkey goulash and pumpkin palicinka). Having just returned from Shanghai and other places in the same province, my parents want to make food inspired by their trip for Thanksgiving this year. I can't wait for the meal . . .
But, they can't find a recipe for pumpkin with white fungus, which they had in China. Any ideas?
