yesterday, to give the trouble and strife a break, i took the kids out for buffet lunch at the bombay brasserie. 17 pounds a head for adults, half that for kids below eight gets you soup, dal, pulao, chicken, fish, mutton, a vegetable, very good naan and two desserts to finish off with.
i should eat here more often. the food is competent - everything tastes like its supposed to - and even if its not inspired, its made by a kitchen that clearly knows what its doing. almost impossible to get indian food like this in london these days.
we had a late sunday lunch today at the czech house in west hampstead ... very, very reminiscent of mocca in manhattan. if you are into meat and dumplings at all, you've got to give this place a try. (the dumplings are thick and white - ringers for sliced boiled potatoes - and very, very different from hungarian knockerl). the old european in east finchley is a little fancier, but the food here seems just that more soulful.
