This year I've been expanding my gin horizons, foregoing my go-to martini gin, Bombay Sapphire, and trying Hendricks', Blue Coat, Plymouth, and a couple of others. In a money saving move, I just picked up a bottle of Rear Admiral Joseph's gin at Trader Joe's.
Folks, Blue Coat is wonderfully balanced and my favorite so far, and worth every cent.
But if you want to save money and feel good doing it, go for the Rear Admiral Joseph's Gin at TJ's. It's a bit "hotter" than the top shelf gins, not as nuanced, but boy, it's a GREAT buy at $7.99 a bottle. It's good stuff and you don't feel like you're slumming. I had in a martini with an olive, but I'm going to pick up a jar of cocktail onions for an ice cold gimlet, in which it should be perfect.
Oh, and chain watching Mad Men on Netflix while you drink a martini is always nice.
