any real coffeeshop towns between l.a. and s.f.?

This is Louisa's query moved from "not about food." Louisa, I'm sure if you go the coast route there are places on the fringes of Santa Barbara. People used to talk about the Green House and The Big Yellow House (before it became a mini chain) but I've never been to either. Further north, I seem to recall a good burger place in San Luis Obispo called, I think, Hudson's. If you are feeling more adventurous and go the inland route thru Bakersfield there's bound to be something there, possibly some coffee shop stuff, Basque cuisine, some Mexican food, etc. And, if you are staying the nite, Buck Owens has a place there. Further up around Fresno you should be able to find some good Armenian dishes. I just don't know the places, but that's why we're on this board. Someone here does!
