Real Azteca

Patrick A. | Oct 10, 2000 11:13 PM

Made my third trip to Real Azteca yesterday morning. The proprietress was as warm and welcoming as ever. They were serving the huitlacoche quesadillas even though it wasn't the weekend (guess the holiday counts), and they made the tortillas to order in a wooden press.

They were sadly out of the wonderful pork tacos, so we had the beef and chicken instead. The beef (bistec rather than carne asada) was wonderfully delicate and crisp with onions, cilantro, lime juice and salsa... the chicken came with peppers and was less mindblowing (though my companion thought it was just as great).

Still missed the pork. Didn't have the energy to get the cicharrones tortas again (pork cracklings plus crema plus queso equals a hell of a sandwich)... next time I'll go with a bigger appetite.

E. 163rd St. just off Hunts Point Ave.
