Our July dinner was hosted by LJ and DS on Saturday, July 10th, at Ravenous in Sonoma. We had early reservations, which allowed us to sit out in the glorious, pretty patio of this restaurant, enjoy the early-evening sun, and partake of a leisurely paced dinner. Our table sat on a sandy patch at the back of the yard and felt very intimate. The food here was outstanding, with a certain Southwestern flair. Among the appetizers, we thoroughly enjoyed the smoked salmon with black and gold caviar, corn cakes, and crème fraîche; and the organic lettuce salad with chèvre, pears and toasted pecans.
Among the entrees that stood out were the Niman Ranch roasted rosemary pork loin with mashed potatoes and wilted swiss chard; the roasted poblano peppers stuffed with hominy; and the skirt steak with lime chipotle sauce, peppers, onions, and roasted potatoes. The evening closed with deserts, including the cheese plate (Boucheret, Camellia, & Point Reyes blue) and the Valrhona chocolate brownie sundae with expresso gelato (Yum!).
