Tuesday, April 20.
Boyfriend's birthday and our 5 year anniversary.
I had a reservation at The Place on W. 4 (or is it w 11?) Called to confirm and they were a little snippy. The guy said they wanted to close their kitchen at 9:30 so we should call if we were going to be late. Reservation was for 9:30!! Obviously I was pissed off.
I immediately called Red Cat and the nice woman who answered said they could definitely seat us at 9:30 and they had earlier reservations as well. I said 9:30 would be fine. After I gave my name, she said "We're glad to have the chance to show you a good time again." (We hadn't been there in months.) I know it's just some client relationship management software but I was thrilled she said it and took the time to read the comments on the screen.
I cancelled my reservations at The Place. Had a great meal at Red Cat, their new spring menu is fantastic diver scallops, wild mushroom appetizer(yum!!); cod on a sweet pea risotto (honestly the risotto could have been creamier, the rice wasn't fully cooked, but the flavor was so good I finished it anyway...yikes!carb-a-holic, clearly) I'm going to put this on my list of regulars - places I think of first for any evening out.
As for The Place I'll definitely never go there. It was going to be my first time and since it's close I figured it would be a nice location to have on my regulars list. But I just couldn't believe how they treated me. (Don't get me wrong they were NOT rude. It just seemed they were more interested in going home early than showing me a good time. Perhaps they ahd a mishap or a family emergency? I would rather they told me that instead of saying "We want to close the kitchen at 9:30 so can you get here on time?")
