We recently dined in a small room with one other table of four. Unfortunately, our meals coincided which meant that for the entire dinner we were subjected to their loud self-congratulatory conversation that was all too frequently punctuated with whoops and prolonged cackles. None of us knew how to handle the situation, nor did or could the house do anything. So our long planned evening with friends was effectively sabotaged.
What would you do? What DO you do? Is there anything anyone can do?
These people were Americans, self-proclaimed "foodies" and apparently tuned into good dining rooms. I.e., Beware, they're out there. And a good reminder to all of us to rein in our party voices.
Parn said it best several years ago: "The French like to enjoy their own dinner, not yours." Don't we all!
