Rare - 37th & Lex

Ate at Rare last night. surroundings were nothing thrilling, service was marginal, but the burger was fine. Mine was cooked perfect and the quality of ingrediants was satisfactory (beef, chedder cheese, roll). The beef was tender and juicy, a very nice texture. "Apple smoked" bacon was nothing to shout home about. Sweet Potato fries (as I had read somewhere else) where extremely greesy and rather tastless. The "cottage fries" (think waffle fry) and beer batter onion rings were actually very good.

Regarding cost... seems if you are not drinking you can make it out of there without doing much damage. The base-burger is $7+, additional toppings are $1.50 each. Fountain Cokes where $2 with refills. Side plates (fries, o-rings, etc) are $3. So if you split a plate of fries and don't get too elaborate with the burger, you can do it for about $15. There were several more expensive options (shrimp & crab burger, frogois burger, salmon, turkey etc) that ranged from $10 to $20.

Overall, if I was in the neighborhood and hungry I wouldn't think twice about poping in for a bite. That said, I wouldn't necessarily make it a "destination", and I wouldn't bring people there for a night out... or go there if I was actually looking for a good time. tourist crowd from the hotel, below average service, and VH1 "Behind the 80s" (or whatever) on the bar flat-screen, which the bartender actually turned to intentionally and left on the entire time I was there, lol...
