Rang Indiant Bistro (Stoneham)

Rang Indian Bistro is a new Indian restaurant that recently opened in Stoneham square. I tried it last evening and had an excellent meal. It is a small place, only about 15 or so tables but it is clean. The menu has a good variety of standard Indian dishes and it is reasonably priced.

We started off with meat samosas, a pastry shell stuffed with minced lamb, potatoes, spices and peas. It was very different from samosas I have had elsewhere, with a larger proportion of potato to meat. But it seemed home made and was tasty. My entree was a chicken vindaloo, hot and spicy but not overwhelmingly so, with basmati rice. There was an ample supply of food, and the chicken was very moist and tender. We also ordered a chicken dosa, an Indian crepe containing chicken and potatoes. It was quite large and also delicious. It was accompanied by samber, an Indian soup that also acts as a sauce for the crepe. We ordered 3 different breads, paratha, chapati and tandori roti and all were hot, fresh and very delicious.

Service was very good, though the restaurant was also not too busy so I would not have expected any service problems. But the servers also seemed genuinely friendly. They serve wine and beer, and will be getting an alcohol license as well very soon.

I would rate this as one of the better Indian restaurants I have visited, and certainly a place I will return to again.
