Just watched Ray's $40/day on Maui tonight. She featured Charlies (a stack of panckaes, juice & coffee), Saigon Cafe (burritos), Manana Garage (martini & corn quesadillas) and Sansei (beer & scallop/unagi roll). I love all these places, but was a tad disappointed all she could scrounge up were a la carte breakfast entry, and well, basically appetizers as "meals". The breakfast really ticked me off; if she'd featured the Cow Country Cafe, people would know where to get a huge serving of eggs, pancakes, bacon and juice/tea for under $7. Fernando's in Kihei will do a mean Huevos Rancheros with fresh corn tortillas for $5.99. Squeaky's in Wailuku does a good spread for under $10, and Maui Coffee Roasters has great bagel sandwiches for under $5. She didn't even mention plate lunches.
And the other stuff: i had read the posts about her in the Not About Food forum, and couldn't agree more, after watching tonight. She wasted time showcasing her karaoke "talent", made goofy faces at every angle and offered d-uh "tips" on Maui. Ironically (for us, as a windsurfing family) there was more windsurfing coverage (about 40 seconds of action plus interview with a local sportsman for food tips) on this food show than on any sports program on network tv.
