quick stupid baking question...confident chs will know!

I'm not normally a baker, I freely admit this...but for some reason I'm craving polenta muffins today. I found a good-looking, easy recipe on the net, and I have all the ingredients save one: baking powder. Since there is a blizzard out; hubbie's car died so he took mine to work, and chowpup is also at work, can any of you hounds tell me the appropriate substitution? If recipe calls for 3 tsp. baking powder, how much baking soda will work? It should work, right? TIA, and a quick response appreciated! Please forgive my ignorance; im another lifetime I was married to a great baker who forever spoiled me for baking, so I just don't do it because I know I'll never live up to my memories of his talent......
