I was driving in N. Durham this afternoon and drove past the drive through place right by the intersection of 70 and 98 (Holloway St.) that was Fat Joes when last I went by. It is now a taco stand with the incongruous name of "Quick Lunch," or something pretty close to that.
It's a pretty bare bones operation right now but the food is good. They were out of pastor so I had the asada and it was very tasty. Even better, tacos, decently sized, are $1 apeice. They had lengua, chivo, carnitas, a few more meat choices. The tortillas were homemade. They also did tortas, burritos, platillos, etc. With my tacos they included fresh onion, cilantro lime, and two salsas
A few notes, both employees working this afternoon spoke English though the younger one was more comfortable with it. The drive through mic appears busted but actually works. They apparently don't have a buzzer thing, so you just start talking into it. They're also cash only, at present. Finally, they cooked everything fresh to order this afternoon so it took a few minutes to get the food out. Not a strangely long time (about the same as, say, La Vaquita) and I really appreciate that the food wasn't just sitting around waiting under a heat lamp, but it felt weird at a drive through.
I think this is my new stop when I'm in that neck of the woods.
