Quick, Cheap and Easy Downtown Ethnic Eats

Jon | Jul 9, 2002 04:44 PM

As a downtown worker for 5+ years, I'm sick of the food courts and instead like to find tasty ethnic take-out that is lunch budget-friendly. Some days I can linger over a nice lunch with friends, but often I find myself wanting to grab something to go... or stop in for a quick chow down.

One recent discovery is a tiny (no seating - just a counter) Vietnames sandwich shop just S. of the BofA on Broadway in Chinatown. For under $3, you can choose from several freshly made offerings, such as BBQ pork (with peppers, cilantro, jicama(?) and other tasy toppings) stuffed in a baguette (+ a spring roll). If you're a BoFA customer, you can park in their lot for free (if you use the ATM or go inside), and can thus pop in and out of the sandwich shop within minutes. They have a few other dishes as well.

Anyone else have some downtown food finds?

I'd like to find a good Korean place that offers cheap dishes that can be had on the fly...
The Korean restaurants I've visited all seem to offer the multi-plate variety meal (which is great), but not too conducive to take-out or circa-$7 lunch budgets. But I also know there are so many restaurants in the area, so I'd love to hear from someone more keen to the scene. Of course hints for other types of food would also be appreciated by me and I'm sure all the other downtowners on here who cringe at the thought of another bland lunch at a chain store.
