Question about Irish food

I just returned from Ireland and I came back with a question. Everywhere we went there were pastures of cattle and sheep. Everywhere we ate the menus had pork in many forms (one can become addicted to bacon and cabbage)but little beef and no lamb. Where are the beef and lamb going? Are the sheep raised only for wool? Is beef just a home cooking (we did see beef in the supermarkets and at home cooked dinners)thing and not a restaurant thing? I am just curious. Thanks
