Question re Holy Grail and others

Wayno | Aug 31, 200505:59 PM

Planning another return visit to the Bay Area from which I moved a few years ago after 20 years of residence there, and have one night for dinner in the city before leaving for 3 nights in Napa. It's a Weds. night and because I could not get reservations at the desired time at Delfina or A16, I made reservations at O'Reilly's Holy Grail, based largely on the positive commments on this board, in particular, those from Joan K. Because it's a somewhat festive occasion and we will be in a party mood, I want it to be a pretty happening atmosphere. While I wouldn't expect an O'Reilly's-affiliated place to be at all staid, my fear is that it will be underpopulated, which is generally a buzz-kill. I have this concern because it was so easy to get reservations on Open Table at any time. So, the question is, has anyone been there recently in mid-week [our plans are for a Wednesday], and how much activity was there? Alternatives I considered are Kokkari, Quince, Myth and Town Hall. Comments on the relative merits of these would also be appreciated. BTW, we're having lunch at the Slanted Door that day, otherwise that would be on the dinner list, and we're staying at the pretty new Hotel Vitale down at the foot of Mission at the Embarcadero.
