Puritan and Co. changes my tune

I had a rather poor impression of the place based on an initial visit, so much that I never returned. But having been turned away from overly full pubs for game 6, we spied a single TV over the empty bar at P & co. and settled in. Just because it's baseball doesn't mean we can't be civilized.

What a great surprise it was to find that all the food and drink and service tone was a vast improvement over the first go-round. Gone was the terrible broccoli app/salad (which sticks out in my mind as the single worst dish I had in the past year) and the twee portions. Gone was the effete snobbery of the service team.

Instead, we had:

Good cheer from behind the bar
A basic salad that knocked our socks off - had to be an entire head of great Boston lettuce, fried shallots, tangy vinaigrette.
A smooth, buttery brat packed with flavor atop a couple of flavorful purees of roasted squash and apple/mustard that complimented nicely.
Gougeres served at the right temp and oozing cheesy goodness.
Risotto festooned with squash and meaty, savory mushrooms.
Brownie Sunday in a plastic Red Sox helmet... Really...

Everything seemed just a little bigger and a whole lot better (recognizing that bigger is not per se better, but in this case, we left our first dinner hungry. Definitely not the case this time around.). Def. put P. & Co. back in play.
