Provence in Sf

Jimbo | Jul 15, 200507:42 PM

I paid a visit to the newly opened Provence on Guerrero at 22nd since it is 100 ft or so from our apartment. In short- a delightful new neighborhood spot. We shared a goat cheeze salad, rabbit and lamb mains, and a cherry clafouti dessert. All well prepared and presented with veggies included, the staff were friendly and eager [partners and family members I believe] and it is a bright, attractive place. A welcome addition to "Baha Noe", but replicated by similar places in other neighborhoods across the city, so probably not a "Destination" restaurant. They don't [yet] have a "prix pixe" option so with mains at the $10[veggie pasta]>>$23[lamb] level, salads/appetizers at $6>9 and desserts at about $6, it isn't cheap. The wines seemed intriguing, but we didn't partake. I've read that the now closing Alma a block away is morphing into a French bistro, and the excellent value Watercress is nearby as well, so Provence faces a challenging future, but it seem to hold promise-definately worth a try if you are not too far away.
