I have just heard from colleagues that the charming Italian owners of Pronto Pasta are closing up in about a month and a half and leaving the country. This restaurant is in an odd place just off of the 101 but it happens to be close to my work so I eat there at least once a week.
The food here can be really excellent. Staples - such as the spaghetti with tomaaahtoe sauce always is, and at just $6.95, a bargain. They often do good specials with pork or italian sausage, polentas, etc. They have an anti-pasta plate which can be excellent too, and I always like the salad with mussels, clams and other seafood in a lemon oil dressing.
It is a great shame they are going, especially as it is really the best lunch option close to my work. If you are in the area in the next month I would recommend you take a visit, a last visit, a first and last visit. I am not sure if it is worth making a special journey - it's not a swanky place and they do have their off days so i wouldn't be able to give it a 100% stamp of approval.
It's like the little girl with the little curl in the middle of her forehead: When it it is good, it is very very good, but when it is bad it is horrid. Luckily it is excellent 90 % of the time and the owners are indeed charming and wonderful.
If you are serious duck lover, however, I strongly suggest you give it a miss if it shows up on the specials(which is rare). I've had it twice there and it's not recommended.
Also, I haeard that one of the employees is opening a restaurant in Sausalito in September:
300 Valley Street #207
415 339 8930
I assume, however, that this venture is not involving the owners who are the driving force behind the current success.
