Progressive lunch

rucksack | Apr 21, 2003 10:15 AM

Just got back from a short visit. With not enough time to hit all our favorites for individual meals, we did a progressive lunch on Friday. Started at Uglich, got there about 11:15 and split three appetizers (fried green tomatoes with shrimp and remoulade sauce, the crawfish balls with the spicy oriental dipping sauce and [a special that day] fried oysters with blue cheese in the crust. Caught the street car up to Napolean and walked to Magazine (about seven blocks) and had a half dozen and two half oyster loafs at Casamento's. Caught the bus on Magazine back downtown, got off at Poydras and walked over to Magazine (it's one way for a ways and the bus cuts over to Camp street on its way downtown) and split a bowl of turtle soup and each had a serving of bread pudding at The Bon Ton Cafe. Absolutely wonderful! A couple of notes. Casamento's will close for the summer mid-May and won't reopen 'til mid-September; The Bon Ton is open only on weekdays and closes at 2:00, but we had no problem getting there about 1:30.
