Priya Lunch Buffet

ericf | Nov 11, 200304:28 PM

This place has been mentioned before, but I wanted to chime in to agree that their lunch buffet is quite tasty. I've been four or five times over the last few months, and have been impressed with the flavors and selections. I think there are usually four meat selections and six vegetarian, along with two soups, plain and seasoned rice, some sort of pakoras, pappadams, a selection of condiments, fruit and salad, and some deserts. Fresh naan is brought to you from the kitchen. (They used to also bring fresh dosas, which I don't enjoy that much, so I don't know if you can still ask for them).

What I like best is how distinct the flavors are in the different selections. Yesterday there was Chicken in Andra Curry, which was delicious (forgive me, I'm hopeless in discussing Indian spices) and very different from the Lamb Curry, a more conventional red curry (also delicious). The other meat selections are usually the chicken in cream sauce (Tikka Masala? I never order this in other Indian restaurants, so I'm not sure) and some tandoori chicken.

The vegetable selections usually include a dal. Yesterday there was a really surprising cucumber masala, as well as a squash and eggplant curry. There's also usually a sautee of some sort, yesterday plantains in yet another really great spice combo (I don't care for plantains in this format so much, too starchy for me, but in the past it's included green beans for instance. Once it was sauteed cabbage in a somewhat different spice mixture, which I thought was great too). The other selections were a spinach puree (Aloo Palak?), good, and a vegetable korma(didn't try, but ok in the past).

There were also some fairly tasty samosas with spiced potato filling. Can't anything about the deserts. Had soup once it seemed sort of dull to me.

All in all, I've been very satisfied with it, without even cutting it too much slack for being a buffet, but I should warn you I am not at all sophisticated about Indian cuisine.

$6.99 plus tax on weekdays till 3 pm. I think it's on weekends as well, possibly $1 more.
