I visited Mom in Eugene on Saturday and had a very nice lunch at Ta Ra Rin Thai restaurant (1200 Oak St.). Mom says this is the second (and best) Thai restaurant in the same location. I had Silver Noodle Salad with ground pork. It also had shrimp, vermicelli noodle (rice), onions, cherry tomatos, cucumber and lettuce. I asked if they could use fresh hot Thai chili instead of dried red chili and they did--a substitution that I think really improves a dish. I had just come from three nights of dinners at Lotus of Siam in Las Vegas, and while Ta Ra Rin did not live up to that standard, the food I had, and that I tasted from my parents' plates, was very good. The service was also very nice and the family who owns the restaurant is Thai (not necessarily as obvious as it sounds!) For dessert we had mango and sticky rice made with the Thai black rice.
