We went just for drinks and maybe a snack... but after we tried the terrific appetizer sampler we were fully engaged in the dining experience. It consists of three hors d'oeuvres-size pieces of each of the following: Daringly garlickly eggplant puree on flatbread crackers, mini potato pancakes topped with smoked salmon (so-so), scrumptious spinach and cheese pirozhkis, and amazing scambled eggs (colored white somehow) topped with caviar.
At the suggestion of our waitress, we ordered the special salad of shaved fennel and raw string beans in a very light and creamy dressing. A palatte cleanser and taste treat in one.
The lamb shashlik was about as perfect a rendition of this standard as I've had, skwered with grilled tomatoes and onions, atop a delicious rice pilaf drizzled with mint yogurt sauce and lamb juices. Succulent and superb. The beef stroganoff was done in a sort of pastry shell rather than with noodles, and was quite good and not overly rich.
The ginger-infused vodka was served with a shard of fresh ginger. Nice.
