In Praise of Marco Polo Fruit Syrups Part 2

Dave Feldman | Jan 13, 201312:41 PM     2

Almost 11 years ago on this very board, I enthused about these fruit syrups, when combined with seltzer, produce some of the best sodas I've drunk: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/288306 As far as I can tell, the 2013 products are exactly the same, containing only fruit and sugar. Zero preservatives, not even citric acide.

The reason for this post is that for the first time, I saw a MP pomegranate syrup, and it's up there with the very best of their syrups (in my opinion, sour cherry and blackberry). MP syrups, imported from Slovenia, are invariably the cheapest of any options at markets, with none of the artificial off-tastes of, say, Italian syrups. I see some of the varieties are available on Amazon via Parthenon Food for $5.89 per 33-oz. bottles. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aag/main?ie=... Wal-Mart's website sells cases of sour cherry and raspberry (the latter not one of the stronger flavors) for a little bit more.

I buy my syrups at Kalustyan's in NYC, but have found MP products not just in Eastern European markets but Asian markets in NY and the Midwest.
