I can't stop going to El Conquistador - an Ecuadorian and Italian restaurant on 5th Ave. between 7th - 8th, in the Slope. I haven't had anything on the Italian side of the menu, but most of the Ecuadorian stuff has been good, and particularly two soups: Caldo de Bolas, and Caldo de Patas. The ceviches are pretty good too. And I love their tamales. Some of the meat and rice dishes are less than spectacular, but some are marvelous, especially the Chaulafan. It's quite inexpensive, and the service is somewhat inept, but definitely worth a visit. They serve beer.
