Was expecting the worse when was invited to lunch at Carmello's, the pseudo-Italian civil servant magnet on Sparks. But it actually wasn't that bad!
Granted, the bread is awful. It's basically Wonder bread with herbs in it. But the salads are great and big; I esp. like the "Carmello" salad, which has grilled veggies, oyster mushrooms, feta and olives on mesclun. Though they could be more generous with the veggies.
The pizzas are good, too - they remind me of the pizzas at the late Oscar's. You can choose the thickness of the crust. I went for thin, so I can't judge the thick.
Coffee's good, but made very short, so you'd better like it strong.
Bill came to 35$, tip included, for two people. We got to linger, too.
