Hi. I received a Bron mandoline as a gift about 7 or 8 years ago. I tried to use it but couldn't figure it out (probably because I generally don't do manuals). Well, yesterday I wanted to make thin fries (from Bouchon's cookbook) and took out my dusty mandoline and actually read the manual this time. I spent so much time trying to figure it out but just couldn't get the thing to make shoestring fries. I can get it to make crinkle slices and julienne potatoes (using the bottom blade). But I think the fries are the top blade, and the top blade doesn't seem to be sharp enough for it to cut up the potatoes. The top blade seems to be crushing up my potatoes and creating raw potato goop instead. I had my husband look at it yesterday but he couldn't figure it out as well. Are my blades bad? Am I missing a piece? Am I doing something wrong?
After 1.5 hours, I got frustrated and used the julienne function and made really thin shredded fries instead that tasted like potato chips.
