Restaurants & Bars

help me plan a special lunch-specific questions

i am a hound of modest means, and generally go to the cheap places loved on this board and live vicariously though you all for the more upscale places. given that i have the day off tomorrow, and restaurants seem open according to opentable, i would like to use the opportunity to have a prix fixe lunch at a fancy place that i wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity/means to go to.

it seems that people's favorites are bouley, fleur de sel, eleven madison park, town and tocqueville. issues are that my partner's vegetarian, and this would be a splurge for us, and so i'd like it to be Special.

1. do any of these places have a vegetarian entree option? (i started going through menus on menupages, and it didn't look promising) have you had a vegetarian entree at one of these places and enjoyed it? can you sub in a veggie dish for the prix fixe price or do you start going a la carte at that point?
2. we don't want anywhere too stuffy/high powered feeling. knowing us, we'd start feeling down about all the inequalities in the world, and would be uncomfortable.
3. given that this is our one foray into the fancy side, are there places that are too hit or miss that we should avoid?

thanks for all your help and input
