Some places in Chinatown, London

• Jen Cafe
Very solid handmade Northern Chinese dumplings (shui3 jiao3) -- I got mine with pork. Perhaps a tiny bit overcooked, but still a hint of resilience in the skin. Wish they had better black vinegar. But still worth trying @ £4 for something like 10 dumplings. A not bad black sesame boba, the tapioca balls a shade softer than I would have liked. The flavour's good despite (I think) the use of powdered flavours.

• Dragon Beard Candy stand on Gerrard street (don't know if they're there only on Sundays)
Nice but not great handmade dragon beard candy (long2 xu1 tang2 )-- delicate strands of spun sugar wrapped around a chewy core of candied peanut. Would have been better if there was more of the spun sugar (the dragon's bread).

Just in case hounds want to learn more about it:

• Golden Gate Dessert House
Very good crepe filled with sweet cream and nice ripe pieces of mango. The taro pastry (yu4 tou2 su1) was only ok -- the flaky pastry shell was ordinary and not as multilayered as I would have liked, the filling was competently made.

• Zipangu
A basic pork katsu curry, not dying to go back, but certainly nothing bad.
