Best place to have Maine Uni/Sea Urchin

eathru34 | Sep 25, 201403:33 PM     6

One of my fondest memories of visiting the northern island of Japan was visiting a fish market in the morning and purchasing a whole uni for 300 yen (approx $3). The salesman cut the top with a pair of scissors, handed me the uni with a spoon and I dug in and had the freshest uni in my life. No soy sauce needed.

Is there a similar uni/sea urchin experience in Maine (driving between Boston and Bar Harbor)? I'm looking to just have uni/sea urchin so if I'd be stuck with getting prix fixe/omakase I wouldn't be interested. I've gotta believe there's a place that harvests them and sells them to the public as well as to restaurants. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you very much!
