Need some help here. They're all showing up for a weekend of fun and adventure, and my husband and I are trying to figure out where to take them besides our smoker-equipped backyard--this will be the first time our parents have met. My folks (driving from the wilderness north of Spokane, Wash.) are, say, Tyrell's types; his dad (flying in from NYC) is more a Bern's man (although my parents certainly wouldn't turn down a fine steak!). What would you recommend? We're open to all sorts of ideas, and since we're new here we haven't been able to try many of the places already mentioned on this board. Is the sunset view at Chopstix really, really special? Would Paramount Grill hold up to a discriminating New York palate? Would Mark's Prime be a disappointment to anyone (my husband and me) who just went to Bern's last night? Is there another place in or near Gainesville that might offer something neither party could find in the rural interior Northwest or on the island of Manhattan? If there were a fancy hotel downtown, we'd go there for cocktails, then somewhere more casual for dinner. Mildred's-type places might be nice (but we've been not too impressed with Mildred's; was it an off night?). Don't want anyplace super-crowded, hard to get into, or hectic and rushed. Thanks for thinking about this annoyingly specific query.
