Place for kids/tourists - ugh

Hi All,

I was in last week and have updates to write up on the db burger, Uguale, Angolo Piccolo, Peter Luger's, great coffee and a few other things, but that will have to wait until late week, at the earliest.

In the meantime, nothing against tourists (because I guess I'm one too, but not really), it's just that I am not fond of the common sites of Manhattan.

Anyway, I have a friend coming in from California, with two children, age 12 and 8, and will have my two children also, age 3 and 12. They'd like to go to the top of the Empire State Building and to the Statue of Liberty. These kids have never been to NYC and it's been many years for their parents.

We need a place to eat. My son suggested ESPN Zone and I hate it, well I hate the food and doubt very much we'll have much time to play games. The food at Mars (?) is just yuck.

Where can we go?

We'll probably be close to Penn at the time we'll need to eat, although I am not sure -- will be downtown too, but nothing north 40th Street would be best.

I'd like to find a place parents will enjoy but one kids will like even more - good food would be nice and nothing insulting to Californians. -- I seem to recall a cowgirl (?) or cow something place. Any thoughts?
