How can pizza be this good - my first trip to Loui's [Hazel Park, MI]

A few weeks back I was reading a thread on the state of pizza in my neck of the woods. I love a good pizza. Doesn't matter if it's round or square, thick or thin, as long as it's good. I remember someone saying they envied the person who had never been to Loui's, because there's only one first time, one first bite. (Boagman maybe?) Well, that had been rattling around in my head for a while. Today DH and I were out running around and it was about 3:00 and I was really hungry. I suggested Loui's because well, I couldn't get it out of my mind. DH agreed and off we went. When we walked in I was a little taken aback. Quite old school. And I knew right away it was going to be all about the pizza...oh yum. We got an antipasto salad (super delicious) and a large pizza. I knew I would want leftovers. It was so good. The crust was perfect. I admit, I do frequent Buddy's from time to time. It was like that, only 1000 times better. Thicker, lighter, crispier. And the cheese.....I've ordered double cheese before and not had this much cheese. And the hidden pepperoni underneath the think layer of cheese...pure goodness. Not too greasy, not too salty, just right.

I wished 2 things - 1 that they didn't use canned mushrooms, but not a biggie. And 2 - that our waitress had been a little bit less surly. It was obviously our first time there but she didn't care. Granted, judging by the crowd in the middle of the afternoon, they probably aren't hurting for business. But still. And when I asked about the cheese - I wanted to know what blend it was because I knew it wasn't just mozzarella she wasn't very friendly about it. But surly waitress or not, I will be back.

Oh, and the best part? Leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Yay.
