My first reaction to hearing that Piperade was the restaurant of choice last Friday was, "Okay, I guess". We had been there about a year ago and the only thing that I recalled being good were the Orange Beignets.
Well, I'm happy to report that Friday's dinner was far more memorable. Between the four of us, we had 3 distinct appetizers, 4 entrees, and 3 desserts---all very tasty.
I should start off by saying that the hostess was accomodating considering that half our party was half an hour late for a 5:30pm seating. We got a slight "warning" that we were probably infringing on the next seating, but were nonetheless pleased that we were seated as soon as they showed up.
Our small plate starters were the Grande White Bean Salad with Anchovies (my fave!), a Seared Ahi w/potatoes and caperberries, and a fish carpaccio that I can't remember the name of.
We then moved to our entrees. I had the Friday night special which was a roasted Atlantic Cod. Perfectly cooked and beautiful, though I thought it was slightly underseasoned. My table mates had the Veal Cheeks (melt in your mouth tender), Lamb Chops (lovely gaminess to it), and the Monkfish. I would have been pleased with any of these dishes as my own.
For dessert, we all shared the Basque Gateau, Lemon Tart, and of course the Beignets. The Beignets were not quite as warm and lovely as I remembered from my very first visit, but still good. And everyone loved the Gateau, two of us thought the Lemon Tart was too sweet. It was the perfect amount for 4 people to finish off our meal along with coffee. Our waitress was efficient and amiable throughout.
In our minds, this last dinner redeemed Piperade. What we originally thought as a passable restaurant is now thought of as an enjoyable place that we would gladly return to.
