Pinot Bistro and a thought...

Invited for a my wife's best friend's birthday...so stunningly mediocre I can hardly believe it. It frightening, really. To think of the chefs and future restaurants spawned by the successful model of such a place! Lordy. Everything ws painfully average at best butthat's too generous. The chicken was okay. Fries were good but I'm a sucker for french fries, Bistro steak completely sucked -- tasteless, fat-free cut of meat, the opposite of a nice gristely cut (something like Lucques's steak-frites) -- and the profiteroles and peach cobbler were real dull losers, too. On the plus side, free corkage! Had a delicious 1994 BV Rutherford -- no great shakes but boy has it developed beautifully...some people I know were complaining about '97 California cabs disintegrating but this was holding up for a long time to come but was perfect now.

How does a place like this get 24's by Zagat's??? Not that I respect Zagat or give it much credence but it's still perplexing...developing.
