Pimientos de Padron back at Ferry Plaza

Joan Kureczka | May 24, 200311:34 AM

My addiction is back in (at of course, the unfortunate price of $5 per bag) from Happy Quail, down at the Ferry Plaza Market. Pimientos de Padron, alias Russian Roulette peppers. Most of these little peppers are quite mild, but occasionally... watch out. Smaller ones are less likely to be hot, but that isn't always the case. Early season peppers are also more likely to be all mild.

You just saute them in a little olive oil until the skins blister, then season with a little coarse sea salt. Yum. My absolute favorite summer appetizer.

The price reflects the fact that Happy Quail is about the only farm in the US growing these. They sell at Ferry Plaza and to Cesar and a few other restaurants.
