Pike Street Fish Fry

Charles | Apr 27, 2008 10:04 AM

Ate at the new Michael Hebberoy Fish counter last night, considering it was only the second day open not bad. The fish was good, lots of interesting choices both deep fried and grilled and the tempura lemon on top was fantastic wish that had covered more of my sandwich.
I must say I was underwhelmed by the sauces none of which were particularly inspiring; I have most of them in bottles in my fridge as well. Even the “house made” tartar sauce seemed more like mayonnaise that they had added pickle chunks too. Also a wide variety of interesting looking pickled things in jars on the walls but not sure if or how or if they are really integrated in to the food.
Unfortunately the fries were not good, I didn’t finish my order!!! Thicker than but just as soggy as Dick’s for around twice the price and coupled with the bland tartar it was just not enjoyable. Oh Belgian Frites Place I mourn your loss.
And then there is Michael Hebberoy…

Should we hail him or despise him…
