Philly Visitor needs after dinner club advice

Dear NYC 'hounds, my wife and I will be visiting your city in a few weeks to see the Gaugin exhibit at the Metropolitan and then having dinner at Le Gigot in the Village afterward (both of which we are very excited about).

What I need help with is a nice place to go after dinner for drinks, within walking distance of the restaurant (Cornelia St.). What I don't want is a place that is so crowded you can't move (or hear) and full of 20 yr. olds. That being said, I'm also not looking for some dead place full of seniors either (no offense meant to either age bracket, but being 40 I'm in between). A nice cozy, romantic lounge would be nice or something lively with music too (Jazz, Latin).

By searching online I've come across places like Cafe Wha?, Madame X, Village Lantern, Fat Black Pussycat, Bar d'O, Zince Bar, etc. When in doubt, I go straight to the 'hounds who I know will not let me down. Thanks for any and all suggestions, I cannot wait to take it all in.

PS Is it possible to go from the Upper East Side to the Village via the subway?
