My wife and I are independent travelers going to Barcelona and Madrid for the first time in September. We will be staying near Place de Catalunya and Puerta del Sol. Using information from an earlier posting on this site and other sources I have come up with a tentative plan. Please review, comment, suggest ideas for holes in the schedule, musts we may have missed, etc.

Wednesday
Arrive Barcelona
Catalunya/Ramblas walk
D - Origens 99,9% - Catalan restaurant near hotel open early enough to eat and crash for jet lag

Thursday
Gaudi sightseeing
L - Taktika-Berri - Basque tapas
D - Passadis Del Pep – upscale and quieter version of Cal Pep

Friday
Barri Gòtic sightseeing
L - La Estrella de Plata - tapas restaurant
D - Cinc Sentits – Sounds fantastic

Saturday
Festa de la Mercè
Go with the flow and whatever is open

Sunday
Montjuic – Barceloneta sightseeing
L - Talaia Mar - Seafood
D

Monday
Arrive Madrid
D - Restaurante Botin de Madrid – tourist experience

Tuesday
Prado and area
L - Palace Hotel – must see the dome
D - La Broche – upscale Catalan restaurant

Wednesday
Day trip Toledo
L- Hierbabuena – Wild game
D - Las Carboneras - flamenco

Thursday
Misc. Museums near Retiro
L
D

Friday
Segovia Day trip
L
D

Saturday
Misc. Museums Salamanca area
L - Fast Good – unique fast food
D - La Terraza del Casino – last night feast

Sunday
Leave Madrid

Barcelona Misc.
El Xampanyet – cava

Madrid Misc.
Chocolatería San Ginés - hot chocolate and churros
Heladeria Giangrossi – gelato / ice cream parlor
