Philly: La Cigale Cafe Francais, Old City/Jewelers-ish

La Cigale is on Walnut, between 7th and 8th St. Sorry for the neighborhood identification waffling...

Sans ado:
La Cigale ("the Locust," I believe) has some paninis (grilled sandwiches), salads and a couple of soups, not to mention being a full-service coffee bar. The food and posters are inspired by the Cote d'Azur region of France, so expect Mediterranean ingredients. Eat-in or take-out.

Product Reviews:
The Lavandou is a panini with prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, basil and tomato (I think that was all). The prosciutto isn't exactly di Parma; it's kind of thick and not at all delicate. But it's still tasty. A sweet and salty sammich, in a good way, I think.

The Provencale (misspelled on the menu, if I recall) is a fine salad with grilled chicken slices (good quality chicken breast for standard salad topping) and a balsamic vinagrette (creamy, good acid/oil ratio, though this is subjective). Nice touches include roasted red pepper slices and artichokes!

For me, this place has thus far outdone its neighbor, El Fuego, for take-out lunch...
