Looking for the perfect provencal fish soup

cjd260 | Nov 1, 200803:25 PM     1

So when I was 16 I had a few bad reactions to shellfish, got tested by an allergist and was told that I could never have shellfish again. Many years later - last month, actually - I got re-tested and given the all-clear to eat shellfish again; no idea how that happened, as shellfish allergies are usually lifelong, but there it is. I've tried shrimp, oysters etc. with no reaction, so I'm good to go.

I now want to celebrate, and make up for lost years, by finding the traditional provencal fish soup I enjoyed as a kid on family trips to Europe. I know that fish soup vs. bouillabaisse can be a touchy subject, but to be honest it's been so long that I don't really care. I just want the best darn french seafood soup in Manhattan, with garlic croutons and rouille if at all possible. I know Le Gigot is highly regarded for their bouillabaisse; is that the place?

Excuse me, I'm off to decapitate a few shrimp. Many thanks.
