Pecan cake at Los Sombreros, and other misc. thoughts and treats

Just got back from my Phoenix trip where, for various reasons, I didn't get to choose many of the eating locations, and thus I was on several fronts disappointed. Never made it to T. Cook's for a celebratory dinner, but then I see that the chef just left anyway.

Two quick comments I did want to make:

1. The breakfast buffet at the Camelback Inn is pretty good: highlights are a lovely and quite varied fresh fruit selection (lots of melons, blueberries, rasperries and blackberries, along with nectarines, various stewed fruits and more), decent blintzes and a cook who will make huevos rancheros to order. Well worth getting the Marriott Stay For Breakfast rate, especially in the summer....We didn't splurge for the full brunch on Sunday, but it looked good. Nice service.

2. Yet another great dinner at Los Sombreros (the night I got to choose :-)) and this time I saved room for dessert. Pecan cake. It was outstanding, and now I want to try more of their desserts! I also learned that getting there early to avoid a wait isn't as important in late July as it is in March. :-)
